Genre conventions – production techniques

  • Cutting frames- By removing a couple of frames before a big piece of action such as a punch, crash, or gunshot, it increases the intensity, and increases the speed that the action happens at. By removing the frames, it makes the action seem more violent and powerful than it actually is

  • Camera chase- By following the action, the viewer is able to see the characters facial expressions. This helps add to the intensity and suspense that is trying to be achieved. by attaching cameras to cars or helicopters, the director is able to capture the action up close and at the same speed that it is happening.
  • Sound- By adding suspenseful music and dramatizing the sound of action such as a crash or a punch, it gives a more intense feeling of action. By also adding noises such as an increased heart rate can help add to the suspense.
